Our readers and contributors astounded us with their response to the announcement of our Inaugural Breakwater Review Poetry Contest. We received more than 300 poetry submissions, which comprised a fantastic panoply of visions and styles.
So, without further ado, the winners of the Inaugural Breakwater Review Poetry Contest.
1st Prize: The White Elephant by Alec Hershman
2nd Prize: Seven Year Plan by Grace Schauer
3rd Prize: The Amputees by Sharanya Manivannan
Honorable Mention: He Already Knew I Was a Wire by Philip Matthews
These four pieces were the best of a fantastic crop of submissions. You can read them all below. So much thanks go to our judge, Gail Mazur, to UMass Boston for providing the prize money, and to all of our entrants for their fantastic work!
Working through all the excellent submissions with our readers and Gail Mazur took some time, and we’d like to thank everyone for being patient with us as we prepared this issue. The contest went better than we ever could have hoped, and we’re hopeful that next year’s editors will be able to do it again!
